Fighters laugh as they ride on the back of a transport truck, hurrying alongside a line of several dead bodies and moving facing the descending Sudan's evening sky.

"See this extensive effort. See this mass destruction," a fighter exclaims.

The individual smiles as he directs the recording device on himself and his companion fighters, their paramilitary identification visible: "They will all perish like this."

The men are celebrating a massacre that aid workers suspect claimed the lives of over thousands of people in the Sudanese metropolis of el-Fasher in recent weeks.

A City Isolated from the Globe

Having held the urban area under encirclement for nearly 24 months, from the summer the RSF moved to strengthen its position and restrict the leftover civilian population.

Satellite images demonstrate that fighters began to erect a massive earth barrier - a raised dirt embankment - surrounding the boundaries of al-Fashir, sealing off access routes and halting humanitarian assistance.

During the encirclement worsened, seventy-eight civilians were killed in an RSF strike on a mosque on 19 September, while the international organization said 53 additional were slain in unmanned aircraft and heavy weapon strikes on a displacement camp in the autumn.

Disturbing Video Shows Unarmed Individuals Shot

At dawn on 26 October the militia defeated the final government defenses and captured the central base in the urban area, the headquarters of the 6th Infantry Division, as the government forces retreated.

RSF Leaders Try to Carry Out Reputation Management

Following the events that came after the killings, paramilitary commander acknowledged that his fighters had perpetrated "atrocities" and said the events would be investigated.
