Adult Swim's Premier New Show of 2025 Secures a Substantial Extension for an Additional Two Seasons.

During the fall season, Adult Swim saw the return of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. However, shortly thereafter, the network introduced a brand-new animated series with a distinctly unique vibe. Haha, You Clowns emerged as heartwarming and calm, evoking a animated take of a contemplative talk show. During a period often characterized by cynicism, this show's wholesomeness struck a chord and propelled it a surprise hit.

A Significant Investment

In mid-December, the network revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two more seasons. This offers showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to develop the world of the Campbell family. The show centers on three polite teenage brothers whose defining trait is their strong bond for their single father, with Cappa portraying for all four main characters.

"I’m so grateful to the fans of the show who took a chance on the show and shared it with others," stated Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for seasons to come."

Executive Acclaim

The official statement also included praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He specifically highlighted the fans who embraced the show and championed its distinctly quirky sensibility.

"All of you supported this new show, praised it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a wholesome alternative" to more cynical adult animated fare. Viewers found something deeply soothing about observing this lovable family navigate their simple existence.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa stated his goal to evolve comedy past its prevailing sarcastic tone. He traced this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“There's this level of irony that we are trapped in,” said Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we just have to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

What Comes Next

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa has the opportunity to help usher in that change he described. At a minimum, the renewal guarantees audiences more opportunities to enjoy the gentle humor of the unique Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. All episodes is currently streaming on HBO Max.
